About this course
A practical course for interventional cardiologists who are starting a TAVI program or want to sharpen their technique. It follows the procedure the way it happens in the cath lab: from CT planning and vascular access, through valve deployment, to closure.
The course is taught by Dr. Osama Shoeib, who trained in TAVI and complex PCI during a two-year fellowship at Gemelli Hospital in Rome, took part in more than 100 TAVI procedures there, and wrote the first PhD thesis in Egypt on transcatheter valve therapy.
Try it free: watch Anatomy of the aortic annulus (demonstrated on real specimens) and Retrograde crossing of the aortic valve before you enroll – both are open in the curriculum below.
What you will learn
- Access management: choosing the right access, safe large-bore femoral puncture, and how to use closure devices.
- Aortic root anatomy: the aortic annulus explained on real anatomical specimens, then measured on CT.
- CT planning: a full hands-on CT analysis with Horos (free software) so you can size the valve for your own cases.
- The procedure step by step: including retrograde crossing of the aortic valve and a complete self-expanding “live in a box” case.
- TAVI valves: an overview of the main prosthesis designs and how they differ.
- Advanced tips: coplanar and cusp-overlap implantation views, commissural alignment, and TAVI in younger patients.
Who this course is for
- Interventional cardiologists and fellows preparing to start or join a TAVI program
- Structural heart and imaging teams who plan TAVI cases on CT
- Cath lab teams who want to understand each step of the procedure
Before you start
You should be familiar with basic coronary angiography and femoral access. For the CT module, install Horos (macOS) or any DICOM viewer so you can follow along.
Course format
13 recorded lectures, about 4 hours in total, organized in six modules. Watch at your own pace.
Thank you to everyone who has enrolled in this course! I am now developing it and adding new lectures, and your feedback will shape what comes next. Please take a minute to leave a short review in the Reviews tab: what helped you most, and what would you like to see added? - Dr. Osama Shoeib
